Fylde MP’s tribute to Jimmy Armfield CBE

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has paid tribute to Jimmy Armfield CBE.

Mr Armfield, a member of England’s 1966 world cup winning squad and Blackpool Football Club legend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer.

Mr Armfield was a football pundit for the BBC in recent years, and a well-known community figurehead who supported a great number of good causes.

Mr Menzies said: “I’m very sad to hear of the death of former Blackpool and England legend Jimmy ArmfieId.

“He was so much more than a world-class footballer. I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy on a number of occasions and he was an absolute gentleman.

“I was always impressed by the fact that throughout his life he dedicated so much time to other people.

“Jimmy always sought to inspire other generations within not just his own community, but much further afield.

“It is a sad day indeed and my thoughts are with his family.”
