AN MP has called for energy customers to shop smart to reduce bills by joining “The Big Switch” campaign.

The Big Switch, launched last month by ‘Which?’ magazine is a completely new way for people to buy their energy.

This will be the first time in the UK that a large number of people will join together as a group to negotiate a deal with energy companies.

And now Mark Menzies, MP for Fylde, has urged people to join the group, which so far has more than 200,000 members, to use their collective power to cut bills and shake up the energy market.

He said: “This is about harnessing people power to seek a better deal and use the market

“It’s a very good idea which is being supported by the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

“I would urge people who are facing high energy costs to visit the Big Switch website before March 31st and look at taking part.”

‘Which?’ has invited all energy companies to take part in the scheme and will be negotiating with them to secure the cheapest deal.

Energy companies will be asked to submit a market leading deal and take part in a reverse auction.

Once they have secured a deal, ‘Which?’ will contact everyone who signed up with a personalised savings estimate.

‘Which?’ will handle the switching process, making it as quick and easy as possible.
