BAE Systems have today announced a £1.6bn deal to supply Hawk trainer jets to Saudi Arabia, safeguarding over 200 UK jobs.

This announcement comes off the back of a recent visit by the Prime Minister to the Warton site, along with his prior trip to Saudi Arabia.

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed this announcement.

He said: “This order is tremendous news for jobs in Fylde.

“It helps to secure 250 jobs at Warton and Samlesbury.

“Delivery will commence in 2016 which is a key time for BAE Systems.

“This deal is a result of a lot of hard work behind the scenes by BAE Systems and the Government, and follows on from the Prime Minister’s recent visit.

“The company and the entire workforce at Warton and Samlesbury deserve great credit.”

Mark Menzies had previously emphasised the importance of export deals to the workers in Fylde in a Westminster Hall debate, and he says this remains the case: “This Government is not complacent, and will continue to fight for every export deal going to protect this world-class workforce”.
