A GROUP of budding entrepreneurs have spiced up their lives with a trip to meet their MP in Westminster.

The Board of Directors of the Spice Up Your Life – a food manufacturing business run by young people working with The Ormerod Trust – visited Mark Menzies MP in London.

During the visit they learned about the history of the British Parliament and were able to discover how economic and political decisions are made today.

The group, all of whom have a learning disability, produce chutneys, pickles and jams which are sold through their monthly stall at St Annes Farmers Market.

And, with a little help from Mr Menzies, were also able to hand over a special Christmas hamper made especially for David and Samantha Cameron.

They have now received a speedy and appreciative response from the Prime Minister, declaring in his own hand that he is a “big chutney fan”.

The ‘Spice Up Your Life’ Directors, were accompanied by staff from local charity, the Ormerod Group, who provide them with support and advice, including Sue Sharples, Chief Executive.

Sue said: “It was an honour and a privilege to be welcomed to the Houses of Parliament by Mark Menzies, who is an exceptionally supportive patron of our organisation.

“The experience has added to the groups understanding of history, politics and their rights as citizens.”

Jon Dailey one of the group members added: “All the rooms were amazing. I thought ‘wow’ each time I walked into a new one.

“The Queens robing room was especially interesting.”

Mr Menzies added: “I was delighted, as patron of The Ormerod Trust, to welcome the Spice Up Your Life to the Houses of Parliament.

“It was a great fun and I know the Prime Minister enjoyed their hamper.”

During their whistle stop trip to the capital the group also journeyed on the London Eye, visited a craft exhibition and took a walk along the Thames embankment.

The group even drafted their own press release to publicise the day and are now keen to expand their knowledge of business further.
