CAB supported in Fylde

FYLDE residents have been urged to ‘ make use of their “important” Citizens Advice Bureau service.

The message comes from local MP Mark Menzies who visited Fylde Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) on Moor Street, Kirkham this week, meeting with staff and discussing a number of issues.

Among them were the impact of public sector budget savings on residents, working together to help people and how to best raise awareness of the work done by CAB.

Mr Menzies said: “The staff at CAB are clearly exceptionally knowledgeable about everything from debt advice to benefit claims, housing issues and many other areas.

“This is truly important in the current climate.

“CAB really is an important resource.”

Fylde CAB Manager Kim Cook said “The recession has hit people hard and the residents of Fylde are no exception.

“We are working hard to help as many people as possible and Fylde Council are very supportive of the service we offer.

“Without the financial support of the council we would not be able to continue our service.”

Cllr Tommy Threlfall, portfolio holder for Environment and Partnerships, at Fylde Council, added: “We recognise the valuable service the Fylde CAB provides to our residents.

“Fylde Council is under financial constraints but the CAB will be given the best possible support.”

The service now also has extended opening hours, running a triage service – telephone, drop in and appointments  – every Saturday between 10am and 1pm.

The extra service, funded by the Local Strategic Partnership and Lancashire Local Gateways, is entitled Access for All, and also runs on Thursday evenings between 4pm and 7pm for appointments and triage telephone advice.

CAB aim to ensure that individuals do not suffer through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities or of the services available to them, or through an inability to express their needs effectively and equally.

All of the advice they give is entirely free of charge and is independent, impartial and confidential.
