Charity event raises £1,648

A CHARITY barbecue hosted by Fylde MP Mark Menzies raised over £1,600 for worthy causes.

More than 100 people attended the party, held at the Hand and Dagger pub in Salwick on Friday night, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Dementia UK.

And after the money from ticket sales and raffle entries was counted up, the total amount brought in by the event came to £1,648.

The funds will be split equally between the two charities.

Commenting, Mr Menzies said: “We couldn’t have wished for better weather for what turned out to be a very successful night.

“Throughout our lives, almost every one of us will be touched by cancer or dementia, whether it is directly or through a loved one.

“That is why I wanted to host this event to do what I could to raise much-needed funds for these two worthy causes.

“The barbecue was extremely well attended and I wanted to thank everyone who came for digging deep and helping us come up with this fantastic total.

“But the main thanks must go to Eric Hall, who supplied the meat for the event, and Hand and Dagger licensee Martin Evans, who put on just about everything else.”
