PENSIONERS in Fylde have been urged to make sure they receive their flu vaccinations.

Fylde MP Mark Menzies had his jab during a special clinic event for MPs and Peers in Parliament last week and has now encouraged others to follow suit.

He said: “The seasonal flu vaccination is important to help protect those people who are more likely to develop serious complications from flu”

The Department of Health offers free seasonal flu vaccinations for at risk groups which include the elderly and people with certain medical conditions including respiratory and heart conditions. MP’s paid for their jabs.

Last year, Blackpool and the surrounding area’s were below the national average in the ‘at risk’ groups.

GP Dr George Kassianos, who was working at the clinic, said: “Despite the relatively mild flu season last year, flu remains a serious threat to over 65 and those people at risk due to a medical condition. I would strongly encourage anyone at risk to get their annual flu jab,”

The free vaccinations are sponsored by the UK Vaccine Industry Group (UVIG) which is supported by the Government as it highlights the importance of flu vaccinations, particularly for certain groups of people.
