Fylde MP welcomes constituent to Parliament

Mark Menzies MP said he was “honoured” to welcome a young Fylde man to Parliament, three years after inviting him to Westminster at the opening of the Warton care unit where he lives.

The Member of Parliament met Jamie Bickerstaffe when he was invited to officially open Safehands on Lytham Road by its owner, Fylde entrepreneur Simon Rigby in 2013.

During the visit, Jamie showed a keen interest in Parliament and Mr Menzies offered an open invitation to pay him a visit in the House of Commons.

Earlier this month, the 24-year-old was able to take a tour of the Palace of Westminster and meet up with the MP during a visit to London with his carers.

Mr Menzies said: “When I first met Jamie I was impressed with the enthusiasm he showed for coming to visit Parliament.

“During the meeting I told him that if he was ever in London he should come to the House of Commons and I would meet him and arrange for him to have a tour.

“I was delighted Jamie’s family remembered that offer three years later when I met them again at Lytham Festival and I was honoured to have the opportunity to host him on the estate the following month. I know Jamie thoroughly enjoyed his time in Parliament and it was a pleasure to have him visit.”
