Help to weather high bills

Weathergirl Sian Lloyd with MPs promoting the Home Heat Helpline.

MARK Menzies has teamed up with a top weather presenter to urge people to help promote the Home Heat Helpline.

ITV star Sian Lloyd hosted at a special event designed to promote the not-for-profit advice service in the House of Commons.

A range of measures to help keep heating costs down – such as free or cut-price insulation – are available from energy companies with Home Heat Helpline helping customers to ensure they don’t miss out.

But research found that millions of people across the country and 19 per cent of Fylde’s households are missing out on support they are entitled to.

That number rises to 25 per cent in Wyre and 29 per cent in Blackpool.

Mr Menzies said: “People in Fylde are missing out on free help which could reduce their energy bills.

“Given the record cold winter, it is vital that people take advantage of all the assistance which is available.”

Sian Lloyd, the ITV weather presenter who supports the Home Heat Helpline, added: “There is lots of free help out there and I urge those most in need to call today to get the support you are entitled to.”

And Christine McGourty, spokesman for the Home Heat Helpline said: “Free help is available to people struggling to keep warm but too many are failing to claim because they don’t think the help on offer is meant for them.  We need to break down those barriers so that more of us claim what we’re entitled to.’’
