Kirkham restaurant wins commendation from MPs

Mark Menzies MP said he was proud of the culinary excellence on offer in Fylde after a Kirkham curry house was highly commended in a Parliamentary competition to find Britain’s best South Asian restaurant.

Mr Menzies nominated Buraq on Blackpool Road in the prestigious Tiffin Cup and the popular restaurant received a special commendation from judges.

The competition is held each year by the House of Commons’ Tiffin Club with local Members nominating an eatery from within their constituency to represent the local area.

And the Member of Parliament for Fylde said he was delighted the Buraq had received the top honour.

He added: “I am a big fan of South Asian cuisine and regularly join other MPs and Ministers at a favourite curry house in London at close of business on Monday evening’s, when Parliament sits late into the night.

“So I always choose carefully when deciding which local restaurant I am going to nominate for the Tiffin Cup as I know Members will be putting forward some excellent candidates.

“Last year, the Bilash Balti House in St Annes won the North West stage of the competition and made it to the final, to cook for the judges in the House of Commons.

“So for Buraq to receive a top honour in the competition the following year shows the number of top class restaurants we have in Fylde.

“I was delighted to be able to present the owners, Mo and Tariq, with a Tiffin Cup chef’s jacket and certificate which they were awarded by the judges.”
