Fylde Conservative candidate Mark Menzies congratulated care home staff who have studied and completed a training programme designed to highlight the role of carers.

Mr Menzies visited the New Thursby Home in St Annes to see Century Healthcare staff who have completed Care Home Assistant Practitioners (CHAPS) training.

He was invited after writing to congratulate two of the staff for previous awards.

Lorraine Matta, chairman of Century Healthcare Limited, said: “We were the first company in this area to support this innovative form of training. It represents Century Healthcare’s continuing investment in its staff.

“We already provide a 10-course mandatory training programme and we have been frustrated at the lack of official recognition for care staff.

“The Chaps course finally represents a real step forward in bringing the role of ‘carer’ to a prominent position and gives it the recognition it deserves.”

Mr Menzies added: “I’m delighted to see Century Healthcare invest so much in its staff, and I am delighted to congratulate each and every carer here who has completed the course.

“The role of a carer is significant, and this Chaps training has helped highlight the vital work carers do.

“I’m also delighted to hear that some of the staff here are now preparing to use this new qualification as a springboard to go on to further training, with the blessings of Century.”

The staff who passed were: Kay Rigby and Denise Fairhurst of Ambleside Bank, Sue Warburton and Katie Brenneis from Gillibrand Hall, Vikki Gill and Amy Louise Jones from Lytham Court, Carolanne Kyle and Nicola Doolan from Mariners Court, Wendy John from Priory Court, Shirley Webbe and Alison Coooper from St Georges, and Liz Hitchen and Janet Jenkinson from the New Thursby.

Following the visit, Mr Menzies and a Conservative Team leafleted and canvassed in St Annes.
