Mark Menzies MP backs Small Business Saturday

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies is encouraging people to shop local on the UK’s first ever Small Business Saturday this weekend.

The scheme is being backed by the Federation of Small Businesses, which has its headquarters in Fylde, and follows on from the US where the annual event took place last weekend on what proved to be the busiest shopping day of the year.

On this side of the Atlantic, the campaign is more than just retail; it is about celebrating the vital role all our small firms play in our economy and within our local communities.

Mr Menzies said: “This weekend will be one of the busiest trading periods of the year as people pack into stores to buy Christmas presents for friends and loved ones and I too will be out and about in Fylde doing my own festive shopping.

“Local shops and tradesmen rely on our custom, just as we rely on them to keep our high streets vibrant and exciting places to visit.

“So I would encourage everyone to do all they can to support local businesses not just this weekend but whenever they need to buy something special or just do their everyday shopping.”

The Federation of Small Businesses is backing the campaign on the ground, with many of its 200,000 members joining the campaign to promote the day and welcomed Mr Menzies’ participation.

Chairman John Allan added:  “The Federation of Small Businesses is delighted that Mr Menzies is backing the very first Small Business Saturday.

“The campaign is an excellent moment to celebrate the contribution that the smallest firms make to local communities and the national economy.”
