Mark Menzies MP in Blackpool Airport meeting

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies questioned Blackpool Airport bosses over the future of the site during a meeting at the Squires Gate airfield.

Mr Menzies and local councillors met with senior Balfour Beatty executives to discuss the next steps towards economic security for the business.

The Member of Parliament said it was important the airport was put back on a solid financial footing if commercial aviation is to return to the site.

He added: “I organised this meeting as I wanted the opportunity to sit down with the owners of the airport to discuss where we are at now, and where we want to get back to in the future.

“Obviously it has been a traumatic six months for anyone involved in the airport and I was extremely upset when it was forced to close, with the job losses that entailed.

“However, any business can only go on losing money for so long and I have made it my priority to ensure that, no matter what, the airfield would remain in place so that commercial flights could one day return to the site.

“We are now in a much better position than we were when the airport closed its doors, with all the businesses which used the airfield operating as normal again.

“It is now about ensuring the airport is on a sound financial footing so it can once again consider running scheduled national and international flights.”
