Fylde MP sets up marriage proposal in Parliament

Members of Parliament are regularly privy to some top secret Government information.

But it is not every day they are asked to keep a marriage proposal under wraps.

Fylde MP Mark Menzies was recently contacted by Lytham man Graham Bainbridge who wanted to organise a tour of the Houses of Parliament for himself and his girlfriend, Karen Wright, during a visit to London this week.

But Mr Bainbridge had a surprise up his sleeve for Miss Wright and told Mr Menzies he intended to propose during the tour of the historic building.

The Member of Parliament said: “My staff and I regularly give tours of the Parliamentary estate to constituents, but this is the first time we have been asked to organise something as romantic as a marriage proposal.

“While Parliament is always extremely busy with tourists and business visitors, we were able to identify a nice spot on the House of Commons terrace alongside the River Thames where Graham could carry out his plan.

“Karen knew nothing about the proposal so it was really thrilling when everything went according to plan and she said yes.

“After the event, I treated the happy couple to a glass of fizz on the terrace to celebrate their engagement.

“I was delighted to be able to help with Graham’s plans for a special proposal and wish the couple all the very best for the rest of their lives together.”
