Mark Menzies MP thanks voters after re-election

THANK you.

I can think of no better words with which to begin my first newspaper column after being re-elected for my second term as the Member of Parliament for Fylde.

I was extremely grateful when it was announced that I had been re-elected, with an increased majority, by the people of Fylde. However, now is the time to look forward and I have a great deal I wish to achieve in the new Parliament.

First of all, I am hoping to see work begin on the new M55 Lytham St Annes link road as soon as possible. This scheme is one of my top priorities and since securing £2m from Government to kick start the project I have been pushing hard to make sure everything is in place for construction to begin.

I also want to see more high quality jobs coming on line on the enterprise zones at Warton and Blackpool Airport, both of which will provide vital employment opportunities in the coming years. While I was delighted to see two companies recently move on to the Warton site, I want to see more speedy progress.

I will continue to support infrastructure projects surrounding the enterprise zones, including construction of the Preston Western Distributor, to improve connections to Warton via a new junction on the M55, and initial plans to extend the Blackpool Tramway to connect to the South Fylde Rail Line near the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone.

I will back BAE Systems in securing new export orders which will protect thousands of jobs locally and will continue to support companies creating high quality apprenticeships in Fylde.

During a pre-election visit to the Fylde coast the Prime Minister said there would be no rush to exploit shale gas reserves at the expense of proper regulation and I will continue to seek guarantees that if exploration is to go ahead then it should only do so if it is safe and has minimal impact on local communities.

This is the first majority Conservative Government since 1992 and with that comes responsibility to not let our supporters down.
We must give people the promised in-out referendum on Europe, continue to support the NHS and pensioners and carry on strengthening and spreading the economic recovery so people from all parts of the country can benefit from it.
