Mark Menzies officially opens AKS Junior School

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies said he was “honoured” to be asked to open the new junior school at AKS Lytham.

The Member of Parliament was invited to attend the formal opening of the new junior school building on Friday, along with Fylde Mayor Councillor Linda Nulty, Blackpool FC legend and former Arnold pupil Jimmy Armfield and representatives of the school’s parent company United Learning.

Guests enjoyed a tour of the school accompanied by house captains and met pupils who were already hard at work in their new classrooms.

They were then treated to a celebratory assembly by all the pupils, with the infants’ songs and the Year 6 “Rubbish Band” being just two highlights of the afternoon’s entertainment.

Following the ceremony, Mr Menzies said: “I was honoured when I was asked to open the new junior school building at AKS last week.

“I visited the school earlier this summer when it was still very much a building site and the transformation which has taken place since then is a testament to the hard work of all the staff and pupils.

“While the new facilities are modern and state-of-the-art, the school already feels welcoming and homely as though the pupils have been there for years.

“We were given an excellent tour of the building by the heads of Layton House and then treated to a superb concert, which I enjoyed very much.

“And I hope the pupils enjoy their new school for years to come.”
