MP plants seeds of the future

Web Mark plants jubilee tree

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies was involved in some gardening this weekend in support of Shepherd Road Allotments.

Mr Menzies was on hand, along with the Mayor of St Annes, Cllr. Christine Akeroyd, to plant one of the 400 trees donated to the Allotments by the Woodland Trust.

The Woodland Trust is currently helping millions of people across the UK to come together to plant 6 million trees, in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Mr Menzies said: “I was delighted to be invited by Shepherd Road Allotments to come to their event.

“I had heard of their Society and, having been there on a sunny St Annes afternoon, understand the sheer joy that gardening there must create.

“I am pleased Shepherd Road Allotments Society is getting involved in this initiative, and can’t wait to see how the trees grow over many years to come.

“It was particularly a pleasure to see people of all ages from around the community, coming out to support both the Allotments, and this historic year.

“2012 is a momentous year, which gives us a great chance to come together, celebrate and thank the Queen for her 60 years of devoted service”.
