FYLDE MP Mark Menzies joined local aerospace workers for this year’s Macmillan House of Lords v House of Commons Tug of War.

Rather than flexing his own muscles, the Member of Parliament left it up to the team from BAE Warton to represent the Fylde in the Herculean effort.

The event, hosted by BBC radio presenter Jeremy Vine, was held in College Gardens close to the Houses of Parliament and was sponsored by Taylor Wimpey Plc and BAE Systems, who went on to win the Sponsor Showdown.

After the event, Mr Menzies said: “It was great to see members of BAE’s team from Fylde attending this worthwhile event, which is now in its 27th year.

“Macmillan is a very good cause indeed and its chief executive spoke at the event of how much the charity is in need of Parliamentary support with the ever-increasing need for cancer support now and in the future.

“I understand the event raised a quite staggering £141,000 for Macmillan and I was pleased to be able to attend to support those taking part.”
