AN independent expert report published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change has recommended measures to mitigate the geological effects of hydraulic fracturing and the exploration of shale gas reserves in Lancashire.
The report is available at http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/news/pn12_047/pn12_047.aspx and a public consultation is now open.
Mark Menzies said Britain needed to set a “gold standard” for regulation of the industry if it is to proceed.
He said: “I have reviewed the independent report and the advice put forward by leading geologists and others about the two seismic events which took place in Fylde.
“I will continue to speak to people within the community and experts to ascertain their views.
“I am very clear, however, that there must be a gold standard of regulation to safeguard local communities like Fylde if this is to proceed to the next stage.
“A consultation is now open and I urge people with questions to respond to it.”
