MP gifts books to local library

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies paid a visit to his local library to pass on new books ahead of World Book Day.

The Member of Parliament stopped in at the Carnegie Library on Clifton Drive, St Annes, where he was given a tour by manager Glenn Pollock before handing over the books, which he received at a recent Parliamentary reception aimed at encouraging youngsters to read.

Mr Menzies even signed up for a new library card while visiting the popular branch.

He said: “Libraries are fantastic places which offer a huge number of services to local residents for very little cost and I am a huge supporter of them.

“I am very proud that there are a number of well-used libraries in Fylde and that a love of literature seems to be very much alive and well locally.

“However, libraries don’t just offer books and I was interested to learn about all the other services available at the St Annes branch including a job club, free internet, DVD and CD rental, access to family history software and reading sessions for youngsters. The list goes on and on.

“Encouraging literacy in children is key to them receiving a well rounded education later on in life and making them into keen readers is very much part of that. I was delighted to be able to hand over some new books which will hopefully be enjoyed by youngsters for years to come.”

World Book Day is on March 6 with numerous events taking place around the country.
