MP launches Fylde Woman of the Year 2016

MARK Menzies MP today launches his annual campaign to find Fylde’s Woman of the Year.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Mr Menzies has again teamed up with the Lytham St Annes Express and Lytham businesswoman Katie Fieldhouse to conduct an exhaustive search for that one woman from Fylde who goes above and beyond.

From successful businesspeople who make the perfect boss to selfless volunteers working with vulnerable members of society; the judges want to hear about their efforts.

Mr Menzies said: “The contributions made by women in our community cannot be overestimated and I come across people on a daily basis who are doing wonderful things in Fylde and beyond.

“Sadly, many of these women still go unrecognised, which prompted me to launch Fylde Woman of the Year, in conjunction with the Lytham St Annes Express.

“We all know women who fit the bill and truly deserve this title and I want to see nominations for those who have made an outstanding contribution to business, the voluntary sector, the local community, on the national stage or, indeed, in all these areas.”

Last year’s worthy winner, Christine Miller from Lytham, has worked tirelessly in the local community for many years, not only through her work as manager of the Fylde Local Strategic Partnership and her position as a Magistrate at Preston, but also through her work with many local organisations and charities.

Letters have already been sent to local businesses, charity groups and other organisations to encourage them to nominate women who they believe deserve special recognition.

The winner will be picked by a panel of judges including Mr Menzies, Lytham St Annes Express reporter Tony Durkin, former- Lytham St Annes Business and Professional Women president Katie Fieldhouse, Martin Evans – landlord of the Hand and Dagger in Salwick and Pear Tree Specialist School headteacher Lesley Sullivan.

The award will be handed out during a special luncheon for invited guests at the Clifton Arms Hotel, Lytham, on March 13.
