MP Mark Menzies welcomes development grant for historic gem

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed the award of a £165,500 Lottery development grant to improve one of the Fylde coast’s biggest tourism attractions.

The award from the Heritage Lottery Fund means a full Lottery bid can now be worked up for historic Fairhaven Lake.

Mark Menzies said: “I wrote to ministers and the Heritage Lottery Fund to support the Fairhaven Lake bid and demonstrate the real need we have to develop this popular Fylde tourist attraction.

“Fairhaven Lake is a wonderful place to visit, but we know it could be so much more with a substantial investment.

“I am delighted, particularly with the loss of Lottery funding at Lytham Hall, to see such a worthy project recognised.

“I am fully 100 per cent behind Darren Bell and his team at Fylde Council and am excited to see what is in store for the site.

“It will be an even greater attraction for residents and visitors, once finished.

“Together with the multi-million pound sea defence improvement works in the area, we can expect to see a much improved coastline.”

Mr Menzies discussed the award head of the Heritage Lottery Fund North West, Nathan Lee, and was pleased to hear the decision to include dementia-friendly aspects in the bid document proved a a positive factor.
