MP meets health bosses over new St Annes surgery plans

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies has met with health chiefs to discuss plans for a new surgery in St Annes.

The meeting came after Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) revealed proposals to move Poplar House Surgery into the nearby Durham Avenue Health Centre, as its building is no longer fit for purpose.

Mr Menzies set up a meeting with the CCG’s clinical chief officer Dr Tony Naughton and estates manager Phil Hargreaves after discussing the suitability of the proposal with residents and patient groups.

Following the meeting, he said: “For me, Durham Avenue Health Centre is already extremely busy and that was reflected in what I was told by people who use the site.

“On top of that, to fill up what space remains with more patients seems to be short-term thinking, particularly in light of the hundreds of new homes currently planned for the area.

“My original misgivings came from the fact I had previously been informed Poplar House would be replaced with a new building. That is something I supported wholeheartedly as I believe that would help ensure we have the appropriate health sites needed in the area long-term.

“I felt it was an important discussion where all the issues were discussed on a frank and open manner. The CCG agreed to go away and have another look at its plans while I promised I would support them in any funding applications needed for a new site.”
