FYLDE MP Mark Menzies met with one of the UK’s biggest developers to discuss the impact of the Government’s new Help to Buy scheme.

As former Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Housing Minister, Mr Menzies was keen to learn first-hand how the project had affected his own constituency.

Mr Menzies met with Taylor Wimpey North West managing director Ian Smith at the company’s Meadows View development in Warton.

Following the meeting, the MP said: “It was great to hear from Mr Smith how well the Help to Buy scheme had been received by potential homebuyers.

“From those looking to move into their first property to those left in negative equity by the housing market, the scheme has already helped hundreds of people secure a mortgage.

“Mr Smith said the number of people using this scheme had accounted for almost half of recent sales at the Meadows View development which just goes to show how it is encouraging people to delve back into the housing market.

“While there is quite rightly a debate around the numbers and location of new housing in Fylde we must not lose sight of the importance of making sure people can afford their own home.”

The Help to Buy scheme sees the Government loan buyers up to 20 per cent of the cost of a new-build home, so they only need to find a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage to make up the rest.
