MP gives youth councillors Parliament tour

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies welcomed a group representing St Annes Youth Council to the Houses of Parliament this week.

The 12-strong group met with Mr Menzies at Portcullis House before he took them on a tour of the Palace of Westminster.

The Member of Parliament also gave the group a talk on the history of the estate and British politics during the visit.

Commenting, Mr Menzies said: “It is always special when a group of young constituents come down to London to see the Houses of Parliament and I was happy to give the members of St Annes Youth Council a tour of the palace.

“I was able to show the young people the breathtaking Westminster Hall, the House of Commons and the House of Lords, while taking them through the history of the buildings.

“I hope those who visited enjoyed their time in the capital and especially the chance to see where British Government policies and legislation are conceived.”

The group was joined by representatives from St Annes Town Council, Cllr Cheryl Little, Cllr Tony Ford and Cllr Carol Lanyon.

Cllr Little added: “We all had a wonderful time visiting Parliament and were extremely grateful to Mark for taking the time to show us around the estate.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to see the seat of Government, where decisions are made which affect the whole country.

“It gave them a brilliant insight into what they can do currently and what they can achieve in the future.”

The youth council members finished off the day by visiting St James’ Park and Buckingham Palace.
