MPs take to the ice with diabetes support group

FYLDE Coast Children’s Diabetes Support Group were joined by local MP’s at a special ice skating afternoon to celebrate World Diabetes Day.

The Group, who support children with Type One diabetes, were dressed in Blue (the international colour for Diabetes) and had a wonderful time at the new SubZero Ice Arena in Cleveleys alongside Fylde MP Mark Menzies and Blackpool North MP Paul Maynard.

The MPs attended the event to meet the children and learn more about the auto-immune disease that requires daily injections and finger prick blood tests.

Victoria Elvy, Group Secretary and mother to nine-year-old Max, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the young people with Type One diabetes to have fun together.  Over the last two years the group has gone from strength to strength, providing a support network for the children and parents, raising awareness of Type 1 and donating funds to research.”

Mr Menzies added: “It was a terrific event and it was wonderful to see the young people having so much fun. The parents and volunteers who take part in the group are doing tremendous work in campaigning and making the case for improved local services.”

The Group has a website and new members are always welcome.
