Speak out against prejudice

HMD 2012 190112

PEOPLE have been urged to speak out against prejudice ahead of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day.

Mark Menzies, Member of Parliament for Fylde, was one of a number of MPs who pledge to sign a book of commitment which is placed in the House of Commons each year to mark the anniversary.

January 27 marks the 67th anniversary of the Holocaust and the liberation of  Auschwitz-Birkenau – the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history.

And this year, the Holocaust Educational Trust are using the memorial day to urge people to help stamp out intolerance in their communities.

Mr Menzies said: “is vital that we remember this important date and give our respect to those who suffered. I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to commit to speaking up and speaking out against prejudice.”

Thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country, to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.
