Please see below a statement from Mark Menzies MP RE the BAE Systems/EADS stock exchange announcement this afternoon.

Mark Menzies MP said: “I’ve been made aware of this proposal by BAE Systems and I have been in touch with the company and defence ministers immediately after the announcement to clarify what affects this would have on the Warton site.

“Warton is the headquarters of BAE Systems military air solutions and my overwhelming priority is to ensure that their future is not compromised by this potential merger.

“I will be looking to work closely with the company and unions in the coming days, weeks and months to ensure that, if this merger goes ahead, Warton remains the heart of the military air solutions division of the company.”

Mr Menzies also raised the issue at business questions, urging the Leader of the House to ensure the House of Commons is updated on the matter urgently by the relevant ministers.
