Unemployment bucks trend in Fylde

UNEMPLOYMENT in Fylde is bucking national trends and has fallen in the last month.

According to latest figures from the Office of National Statistics the number of unemployed benefit claimants in Fylde last month was 984.

This represents 2.6 per cent of the economically active population between 16 and 64.

While the number of claimants is 94 higher than the same time last year it is 24 lower than last month.

Mark Menzies MP said: “It is positive to see Fylde bucking the trend.

“Everyone recognises the economic realities and it is, of course, a very difficult time for everyone.

“People have lost their jobs in Fylde and that is a very difficult thing for them personally and for the area as a whole because of the knock on effect it produces.

“However, I think the fact that unemployment is falling sends a very positive message to companies looking to invest in the area that Fylde is open for business and the people of Fylde are hardworking, determined people.

“I will continue to do everything I can to help the Fylde economy create jobs and I am expecting the new Lancashire Enterprise Zone which I campaigned so hard for to help significantly next year.”
