FYLDE MP Mark Menzies said he was “honoured” to be asked to open the new junior school at AKS Lytham. MP campaigns for Afghan women’s rights

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies has leant his support to a campaign for women’s rights in Afghanistan. The Member of Parliament attended an event in Parliament where a cross-party group of MPs and peers gave their backing to Amnesty International’s bid to ensure greater freedoms for Afghan women. The charity says women are facing mounting threats from the Taliban and other armed groups in the country and is urging the Government to provide extra support. Fundraisers bring in £2,000 for worthy causes

TWO charity events hosted by Fylde MP Mark Menzies made £2,000 for a pair of worthy causes.

Mr Menzies held a charity barbecue at the Hand and Dagger pub in Salwick this summer where £1,600 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and Dementia UK.

On Saturday, a coffee morning held to hand over the money to representatives from the charities raised a further £400, meaning a total of £1,000 was given to each of the worthy causes.

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies has praised the work of retiring Ormerod Chief Executive Sue Sharples. Service users, staff, trustees and friends and family gathered on Friday for the charity’s annual Christmas party while taking the opportunity to thank Sue for the hard work she had put in during her 12 years of service.
