MY WEEK IN WESTMINSTER

It is now 18 months since we were forced to boil water on the Fylde coast for more than a month – and the Drinking Water Inspectorate refuses to give any update. This is wrong and completely unacceptable. If the Inspectorate cannot yet reveal the cause of the cryptosporidium outbreak in Lancashire’s water in August 2015, it has a duty to let people know where it is up to. I have written to the DWI. It is like banging your head against a brick wall. They reply quite... Read more »

Prime Minister praises BAE Systems for apprentice degree schemes

MP Mark Menzies highlighted the work of Fylde coast apprentices to Prime Minister Theresa May. Mr Menzies called on the Prime Minister to encourage more commitment to degree-level apprenticeships when he spoke during Prime Minister's Question Time. And he took the opportunity to praise firms on the Fylde coast for their work with apprentices in the process. During the session, which took place immediately before the Budget, he said: "In National Apprenticeship Week, it is important to recognise this Government’s commitment to investment, apprenticeships and skills. "Will the Prime... Read more »

Fylde MP welcomes Budget for working families

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed a Budget which will put more money in the hands of working families. Mr Menzies said: "We again see a budget to help working families from the Chancellor. "The rise in personal allowance to £11,500 puts hundreds of pounds back into every household. "And the doubling of childcare to 30 hours a week will help thousands of families. "Real wages have risen for 27 months in a row - more good news for those in employment. "I'm also delighted with the £435m package to... Read more »

MP Mark Menzies blasts ‘arrogant’ Drinking Water Inspectorate over investigation

Fylde MP Mark Menzies says the 18-month wait to discover the cause of an outbreak of cryptosporidium in Lancashire's drinking water is 'unacceptable'. Mr Menzies is writing to the environment minister over the delay into the investigation by the Drinking Water Inspectorate - which refuses to make any comment on the investigation. United Utilities put 300,000 people on 'boil water' notice in August 2015, and it took just over a month for supplies to be declared safe for everyone to use again. The bug wsa discovered in... MY WEEK IN WESTMINSTER

I took time this week to talk to some of Fylde’s councillors and issues on the patch. I met with Coun Sandra Pittman where the issue of the Moss Road reared its head again. I cannot say it enough times; the sooner it is built, the better, as has been highlighted by the traffic jams caused by roadworks on Clifton Drive these past few weeks. I also visited Coun Ed Nash in St Annes and Coun Peter Buckley at the site of the Enterprise Zone at Blackpool Airport. Fylde’s... Read more »
