Mark Menzies MP: Why I support relaxed Sunday trading laws

Before the 2012 London Olympics, I introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill, enabling shops to open for longer hours on Sundays during special events. And I was delighted when the Chancellor of the Exchequer decided to implement emergency legislation to this effect for August and September 2012. The result was an increase of 3.2 per cent in retail, compared to 1.6 per cent the following month when the restrictions were back in place. THIS week I paid a visit to BAE Systems in Warton where I was updated on the company’s current work and plans for the future. While I was there I was also briefed on the progress of the Warton Enterprise Zone, which I helped secure in 2012 and which it is envisaged will provide thousands of jobs for the area in the coming years. This week I have had some important meetings over issues which affect large numbers of people in different areas in Fylde. I met with local residents in St Annes over plans for an extension to Durham Avenue Medical Centre and nearby Poplar House Surgery moved into the premises. Fylde MP visits Heathrow Airport to discuss expansion plans

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies visited Heathrow Airport to review plans for a new third runway at Britain’s largest international hub. The Member of Parliament was invited to the airport as a member of the Transport Select Committee and was told how the proposals to increase capacity are vital for the UK to keep up with competition from Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt.
