THIS week I have been busy dealing with a raft of issues which are concerning constituents from around Fylde. As a Member of Parliament, planning is something over which I can have limited influence as decisions have always been left to local councils to make without interference from Westminster. MP reassured over elderly care

FYLDE MP Mark Menzies has received assurances from the Health Secretary over care for the elderly during a debate in Parliament. Mr Menzies recently spent an afternoon at Lytham’s Fernbank Surgery and was impressed after hearing about preventative work surrounding elderly patients which is often carried out by GPs and local nursing staff and relieves the pressure on A&E departments. I think doctors do a fantastic job in our communities and this week I had the opportunity to spend time in a Fylde surgery speaking to those on the frontline of health services in Lytham. IT is 2014 and the year started positively with the news that one of Fylde’s most recognisable residents had received an MBE for his work in business and with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Blackpool.
