FYLDE MP Mark Menzies has spoken of his delight after a local restaurant came fourth in a Parliamentary competition to find Britain’s best South Asian eaterie.

Mr Menzies nominated Bilash Balti, on St Andrew’s Road South, St Annes, in the prestigious Tiffin Cup and the popular restaurant was shortlisted from 86 different restaurants and named among the 12 finalists.

The competition is held each year by the House of Commons’ Tiffin Club with local Members nominating a venue from within their constituency to represent the local area.

The Grand Final was then hosted in the House of Commons where a Bilash Balti chef was asked to create a meal alongside his competitors before a  final decision was made by a panel including chairman of the judges TV chef Ainsley Harriet and vice chairman Eastenders actress Nina Wadia.

Mr Menzies said: “I was delighted to host the owner of Bilash Balti, Azizul Choudhury, and his team down to Parliament to take part in the Tiffin Cup final.

“To be picked as the fourth best out of the dozens of restaurants which entered from across the country is something all the staff should be very proud of.

“I’m sure they enjoyed their time in London and I look forward to my next visit to the restaurant to enjoy some of their award winning cuisine.”
