Fylde MP Mark Menzies welcomes record low unemployment

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed figures revealing the joint-lowest unemployment in more than 10 years.

Unemployment has fallen 900,000 nationally since November 2010 – and 270 to 640 in Fylde.

That represents a 30 per cent fall in Mr Menzies’ constituency.

He said: “Today’s figures are good news for families in Fylde and across the UK. Unemployment continues to run at its joint lowest rate for more than a decade, there are 270 more people back in work in Fylde since 2010.

“I’m also delighted to see a new major employer in Lytham, with the arrival of Volker Rail which is overseeing the electrification of the Blackpool to Preston Rail line.”

More than 100 staff will be based in the town, and they will boost the local economy further as they visit local shops and restaurants.

“But there is more to do to help people of all backgrounds and abilities into work, which is why we will continue with our important reforms to welfare that are ensuring it always pays to be in work.

“It’s because of the measures we have taken to put our economy in a position of strength that we can build a country that works for everyone – with more people sharing in our country’s prosperity.”
