Mark Menzies blasts Labour for ‘weaponising’ the NHS again

Mark Menzies on Sunday Politics

Fylde Conservative candidate Mark Menzies blasted Labour for ‘weaponising’ the NHS following the cyber attack that his its computer systems on Saturday.

Appearing on Sunday Politics, Mr Menzies said the Government had already pledged some £50 million to the NHS as part of a £1.5 billion national fund to fight cyber threats.

Following the suggestion the cyber attack would not have been successful had Labour been in charge, Mr Menzies added: “What we are not doing is using this to grasp votes.

“It is really sad that the Labour Party is seeking, once again, to weaponise the NHS.”

He added: “This is a crisis that’s affected 150 countries around the world, and some of the biggest companies like FedEx and Nissan.

“This is the act of terrorists and extortionists, let’s not lose sight of that.

“The Government, through setting up its National Cyber Security Centre, anticipated acts like this and has put money into it.

“But we have to make sure we aren’t complacent, we have to be vigilant.

“There are bad people out there who want to disrupt our way of life and we cannot allow that to happen.”
