FYLDE MP Mark Menzies today welcomed plans for a new pavilion for bowlers at a St Annes park.

The Ashton Gardens Bowling Club has already submitted a planning application for the construction of a new clubhouse alongside its green.

The plans for the building have been designed to mirror the existing Pavilion Cafe in the park, which is itself a replica of the old Ashton Institute.

Mr Menzies met members of the club at the site to inspect the new proposals.

He said: “These new plans look fantastic and this project is a great example of people working together to come up with new facilities which suit everybody.

“I was impressed by the modern facilities the plans show and that there is provision for indoor bowls for people who may not be as mobile as they once were or for when the weather’s bad.

“I was also pleased to hear the building will also be offered for use by the wider community when it is not being used by the bowling club.”

If the plans get the go-ahead, the club will begin fundraising and looking to secure grants for construction of the new building.
