Fylde MP Mark Menzies is backing a new drive to ensure Britain’s farms continue delivering the best quality produce through the coronavirus pandemic.
Pick for Britain has been launched to bring together workers, employers, growers and recruiters to support the nation’s farmers and producers.
Restrictions put in place to control coronavirus mean the arrival of seasonal overseas workers is unlikely to take place in the immediate future.
Mr Menzies said: “Pick for Britain is a huge drive to make sure the fantastic produce grown by our nation’s farmers does not go to waste.
“We have many farmers in Fylde producing top quality food. When I’ve visited them it has always been interesting to see the variety of jobs on those farms, and it has been a pleasure to meet so many people who are so passionate about our food, many of whom find themselves in agricultural management and logistics roles.
“Food security is of vital importance and the scheme brings together farmers, employers, agencies and workers to ensure we get the right people in the right place.
“There are a huge number of roles in the farming industry – from picking to packing, tractor and forklift drivers to plant husbandry.”
Pick for Britain has been endorsed by Prince Charles who has called on furloughed workers to join the effort and help the UK’s farming industry.
