The bunting is up, flags are flying high and, hopefully, the sun is ready to shine as we look forward to celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here in Fylde.
It is fantastic to see so many houses and businesses decorated and to hear about so many events planned. After a couple of extremely difficult years I know how important it is that we are able to come together, as friends and as communities, in honour of a most incredible person, who has dedicated her life to the service of her country. I am looking forward to the many events planned here in Fylde, including the lighting of the Jubilee beacons, which will shine out across Fylde, connecting to a network across the United Kingdom.
Parties and celebrations are planned in many of our parks and community centres and I am grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to get Fylde Jubilee ready. The extra bank holiday means we are all able to celebrate in style and I know the people of Fylde will do Her Majesty proud. Indeed, it is already heartening to see so many flags flying and even the occasional life-sized cardboard cut-out of The Queen in windows around Fylde.
Her Majesty has had an extraordinary life and an immeasurable influence during her 70 years as monarch. She has seen our country change in so many ways during her reign and yet still manages to embody the values we have together as a United Kingdom. She has remained a constant force for good, a source of incredible pride and a point around which our country, on so many occasions has been able to rally.
Pomp and ceremony is one of the things Britain does best and I am sure there will be no shortage over the coming days. So, if you are attending a public celebration, a garden party or raising a glass to Her Majesty from the comfort of your home, enjoy this special occasion as we all celebrate a remarkable and unforgettable 70 years. God save the Queen.
