Unemploment falls year-on-year in Fylde

Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed yet another set of excellent employment statistics for the constituency.

The number of people out of work in Fylde has fallen year-on-year once again and employment is at record levels.

Mr Menzies said: "We now have 1.7 per cent of the working age population claiming Jobseeker's Allowance - the same as last month - with 55 fewer people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance than the same month last year, which is encouraging.

"I am especially pleased to see the number of young claimants, aged 18 to 24, down to 90, 25 fewer than the previous year.

"Fylde's employment figures are far better than the national average - and we have nationally the lowest rate of unemployment in young people since records began."

The statistics, provided by the House of Commons Library show Fylde has an unemployment rate of 1.7 per cent of the economically active population aged 16-64.The equivalent UK claimant rate was 2.9 per cent.

The UK unemployment rate, which includes people not claiming benefits and is estimated from survey data, was 4.0 per cent in June to August 2018.

The unemployment rate reached 8.0 per cent in February 2010 under the last Labour Government.
