I am so proud of the sense of community we have here in Fylde. Charity has always been incredibly strong here, with countless predominantly local organisations working tirelessly to support those in need, improve lives or to make a difference in their community. These charities could not do the work they do without the selfless efforts of the charity staff, volunteers and fundraisers and I want to help give these unsung heroes their moment of recognition.
To do this, I am launching the Fylde Community Awards, similar in format to last year’s Fylde Business Awards but split into three categories; Community Group of the Year, Charity of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Nominations are now open and, if you know someone making a difference and want them to be recognised, please head to my website to submit your nomination. On the topic of Charity, I am proud to serve as a Patron of HomeStart Fylde & Wyre and it was wonderful to see so many local bakers, be they professionals of amateur enthusiasts, coming together to raise money for the charity at a Bake-Off inspired competition on Saturday. For such an event, who more appropriate to judge the contest than Bake Off: The Professionals finalist Raf Perussi, who is due to open his new Beurre Patisserie in St Annes. The very best of luck to Raf ahead of his opening and a heartfelt thanks to Tracy from the Mirrie Dancer for organising the event and helping raise such a significant sum for a fantastic local charity.
Next month should see the introduction of the long-anticipated restrictions on overnight parking of motor caravans on along the Promenade in St Annes and several adjoining roads. We all want to support our visitor economy and the thriving businesses that rely on it however residents have been increasingly worried about the number of motor caravans parking on public highways for the duration of a stay, rather than dedicated camping grounds. This has led to concerns about sanitation and hygiene, as well as the obstruction these large vehicles can cause.
The changes bring in rules specifically targeting overnight parking, with restrictions being in place between 6pm and 8am. Having supported these efforts, including during the County Council’s public consultation last year and in a series of meetings with local Councillors, I am delighted that we have reached this point. I hope that these incoming changes will make parking more accessible and ensure visitors can access the proper facilities made available in designated caravan parking areas.
