Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcome the Government’s package of support for households and businesses to tackle rising energy bills.
The Prime Minister today announced a new £2,500 guarantee on average household bills, a two-year freeze on energy costs in response to unprecedented price rises.
The package announced also included support for businesses, including those in the hospitality sector and for schools and colleges who have faced uncertainty over rising costs.
Mr Menzies said: “I know people in Fylde have been worried about rising bills.
“This will give people certainty and ensure they are able to budget not just for this winter but next year as well.
“The war in Ukraine and disruption to energy supplies across Europe has led to an unprecedented situation and it was important the Government respond.
“I have been clear that package should not just benefit households but employers as well.
“The Prime Minister has taken swift and determined action, to reassure people in Fylde and across the United Kingdom.”
Mr Menzies believes the intervention will be vital to small businesses across Fylde who have been feeling the pinch.
He said: “I have been talking to business owners, particularly those in our vital tourism and hospitality industry.
“I know how much their costs have been rising and the challenges they have been facing.
“I have made clear to Ministers the importance of extending support to business and am pleased that call has been heard loud and clear.
“I will continue to work with employers locally to ensure they have a strong voice during these challenging times.”
Mr Menzies welcomed the pledge to continue existing support packages.
He said: “The payments due next month will still go ahead, giving welcome relief to families across Fylde, particularly to those on lower incomes who will receive extra help.
“I applaud the Prime Minister and her Chancellor on the speed with which this package was brought forward and on their commitment to people in Fylde.”
