Fylde now has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, according to official statistics.
The number of people claiming employment benefits fell year-on-year to 695 – some 1.8 per cent of the economically active population of working age.
Fylde MP Mark Menzies has welcomed the figures, which also show a further fall in the number of young people out of work.
Mr Menzies said: “I am pleased to see the year-on-year figure falling yet again, and we now have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.
“I am especially pleased to see the number of young people out of work reducing further.
“There are plenty of opportunities here in Fylde; I am sure the likes of BAE Systems’ pledge to take on 700 apprentices this year – a large number of which will be at Warton – will help reduce this figure further still.”
The unemployment rate is 1.8 per cent in Fylde; the equivalent UK rate was 3.1 per cent.
The number of claimants fell by 10 compared to last December, and the number of young unemployed people fell from 120 to 105.
