Fylde MP Mark Menzies has called on the Government to look into GCSE and A Level grading for students in Lancashire this year.
Mr Menzies wrote to Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson to highlight the differences in education for students in areas with a low incidence of Covid-19, and those in areas such as Lancashire.
He said: “It is not fair if students here in Fylde are judged with the same benchmark as those who have not had to miss a day of teaching in other parts of the country.
“The teachers and support staff in schools across Fylde have worked wonders to keep our schools open, but there are incidences of Covid which have forced bubbles to close and multiple members of school staff to isolate. That effects the entire school and teaching across the board.
“I have every faith teachers are setting the correct work for students at home, but it will never be the same for students as learning in school.
“I have asked the Department to consider grades awarded on continuous assessment. I have also asked if they will consider expanding examinations with a choice of questions to ensure students who miss out on some areas of a subject syllabus can answer a full paper and achieve top grades.
“And I have queried how it can be considered a level playing field if our students are judged using the same criteria as students in other areas who may not miss a day of their education.”
