The UK has done a fantastic job of decarbonising, having halved our carbon emissions since 1990. Fylde plays, and will continue to play, an important role in this through the generation of wind and solar energy and, of course, powering British nuclear with Springfields manufactured fuel.
I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of a young man following a road traffic accident on Blackpool Road in Lytham earlier this month. His family have been in touch with me, and my thoughts and prayers are with them at this incredibly difficult time.
Energy security is a topic that has been pushed to the centre of the agenda in recent years, with the Government giving increasing support for the nuclear industry as a source of low carbon and domestically produced electricity.
Serving as your constituency MP is my favourite part of being a Parliamentarian and summer recess offers a welcome opportunity to dedicate more time to getting out and about in Fylde in a way that is simply not possible when a sitting Parliament sees MPs in Westminster for half the week.
Fylde residents are all too aware of recent flooding and water quality issues and my efforts continue to be focussed on securing much needed investment and action to tackle these problems.
It was a fantastic week for two of Fylde’s largest employers, most notably with the launch of Great British Nuclear ushering in a new generation for the nuclear industry and opening the door to a successful and sustainable future for the hundreds of employees at Springfields.
Mark Menzies MP has expressed his delight following today’s launch of Great British Nuclear, with the Secretary of State for Energy and Net Zero speaking at an event at the Science Museum.
